My name is Andreia Wardlaw. I graduated Magna Cum Laude May 2018 from The University of South Carolina-Columbia with Leadership Distinction in Research and a BA in History with a Minor in African American Studies. Both fields of study opened my eyes to the stories of Black Women I had never heard in my K-12 history education. My research exposed the large gaps of women’s voices missing from our single narrative of American History. Much of the historical education that we learn comes from the voices of those who had the privilege to record their stories and be remembered. Often times Black Women’s voices have been overlooked or suppressed. Mother Wit is a platform to change that. My hope is to bring to light the stories of Black Women who have long gone unnoticed. As an intern with The Center for Women’s History at the New-York Historical Society I was able to write for their blog Women at the Center. My contributions at N-YHS prompted my desire to create my own blog to showcase the historical voices of Black Women. I am currently based in Greenville, South Carolina.
